Local artist Jennifer L’Heureux realized her dream of becoming a working potter in 2002 when she opened her studio in Nelsonville’s Historic Square Arts District. Nelsonville Pottery & Gifts features the work of over 70 local artists. They have five working ceramic pottery wheels where Jennifer creates her work and locals can take lessons. The store offers everything from jewelry to hand-made soap and clothing to beautiful ceramic dishes. She says part of her success is because, “people tend to value the artwork of their area.” No where is this more true than in Athens County.

On the last Friday of every month, except December, Nelsonville’s Historic Square Arts District is host to Final Fridays on the Square — gallery hop featuring special art events and extended hours at the dozens of studio galleries, antique stores and gift shops around the square. Not only is Nelsonville “a great place for people to come and visit,” says Jennifer, “it’s a great place for people to stay and live.”
