Community Schools. In Athens County, our schools are our communities. PTA, plays, concerts, ice cream socials. We come together for our kids because we value education, and that makes an Athens County education valuable.
There are five K-12 public school districts in Athens County. Each is a vibrant, vital part of its community.
The Athens City School District is the county’s largest in enrollment, but the smallest geographically. It consistently wins statewide recognition for fiscal responsibility and prides itself on transparency.
And did we mention Athens High School students score higher on the SATs and ACTs than the state and national average? Our 2007 grads went on to attend Dartmouth, Wellesley and, of course, Ohio University (just to name a few).
With 16 high-quality elementary schools located throughout the county, our kids get the individual attention and support they need to master the fundamentals, positioning them to succeed in high school, college and life.
There are about 16 students per teacher in Athens County. While funding levels differ throughout the region, our teachers are dedicated to providing students with the best education possible, and their efforts are buoyed by partnerships with Ohio University College of Education faculty, especially in the areas of math and science.
